Stephen Butterfield was an Amway distributor during the early 1980s. Upon reaching the level of 4000 PV, Butterfield realized that the true profit in the business was in the motivational tools business. Butterfield identifies some of the cultic mind-control practices in use on tapes, and at functions, to keep distributors "plugged in" and continuing to pay for motivation.
