What are Distributors Saying About Quixtar?

A recent website visitor named Larry wrote:

"What's also interesting from your site is your discussion of Quixtar, the new e-commerce business being set up by the founders of Amway. It's just about completely off-base. I noticed that it was posted just a couple of weeks ago, so it's a shame that it is so wrong, because you had all of the info available. Some points for your consideration:

"Yes, Amway distributors can participate. In fact, if you choose to do so, you can get into Amway now, and automatically become a Quixtar distributor on 1 Sep, once it launches. If you're an Amway distributor prior to launch, there's no additional fee to become a Quixtar distributor. As far as quitting Amway to start Quixtar, that's the BEST part about being in Amway now. Whatever network you already have in place on Sep 1 will roll over to Quixtar (you don't have to start from scratch). You say that "nobody knows." Don't confuse the fact that YOU don't know with ignorance on everyone's part, because these points are discussed over and over again by our upline leadership and on the latest "evil" tapes put out by the system and the company. "

Ken McDonald, Sr. VP at Amway Corp., stated in a letter to the Washington Post on April 9, 1999:

"The Quixtar business opportunity remains under development and will not even be available until September. . ."

In my article on Quixtar, I pose the question "What will the entry fee be? Nobody knows."

Larry knows! According to him:

"Our latest info is that the price of the current Amway kit is about $180 depending on your tax, shipping & handling, etc., and the fee to become a Quixtar distributor will be the same. If this info changes, I'll be sure to let you know. Again, you say that "nobody knows." Don't confuse the fact that YOU don't know with ignorance on everyone's part, because these points are discussed over and over again by our upline leadership and on the latest "evil" tapes put out by the system and the company."

But according to McDonald,

"No price has yet been released for the business kit that will be associated with the Quixtar business."

In the Quixtar article, I ask: "How about the compensation plan? Nobody knows"

Well, apparently Larry knows! He tells me belligerently that:

"The current plan will be the Quixtar plan. This may change as well, but that is a current answer to your question. Again, you say that "nobody knows." Don't confuse the fact that YOU don't know with ignorance on everyone's part, because these points are discussed over and over again by our upline leadership and on the latest "evil" tapes put out by the system and the company."

Oddly enough, Amway's Senior VP McDonald again disagrees with Larry. In an Amvox message sent to distributors on March 26, 1999 and posted on Amway's ABN site, McDonald is very clear:

"So effective Monday, March 29 . . . that's three days from now . . . a zero-tolerance policy goes into effect. These violations will be cause for suspension from sponsoring for at least six months.

"What are the violations I'm talking about? There are three. The first one
is spamming. . .

"The second violation is making income representations. . . (emphasis is mine)

"Violation number three is signing up anyone into the business today. Why? Well, because there is no business yet. It doesn't start until September 1, so to sign someone up or make them believe that they are now a independent business owner is not only wrong, it's unethical, because a person can't be part of something that doesn't exist. So prior to the launch date of - 9/1/99 - no one may sponsor, register, or preregister people into the business. This also means they can't stamp a red "" or "e-commerce" or "Internet" or something like that on an Amway app.

"Your ADA Board has asked us to send every IBO in North America a mailing that includes this kind of information."

So, what's the matter Larry? You're not getting your mail? Or maybe you aren't plugged in to the right sources of information.

In an interview with Washington Post reporter Leslie Walker, Diamond Direct Distributor Steve Gulick claimed that:

"Gulick said people who sign up could expect to be earning $2,138 a month within four months, provided the following proved true: They personally spend $200 a month at the mall and recruit six friends to join, and each of these friends recruits four more, who recruit another two – for a total of 78 people in the person's "line," all of them spending $200 a month at the mall.

"And you and each of these recruiters would pay $150 upfront to join."

Hmmm. I guess, being a Diamond, he figures he can say whatever he wants, violate whatever rules he wants. At least he agrees with Larry.

Also, according to the article,

"Existing Amway distributors and new ones who join Quixtar may have to make a choice: Go online or stay in the old distribution system and miss what Amway supporters say has become Internet "fever." Officials at Amway headquarters in Michigan are still trying to figure out whether they'll let people play it both ways."

Of course, our friend Larry knows better than the Post, too. He claims:

"If you're an Amway distributor prior to launch, there's no additional fee to become a Quixtar distributor. As far as quitting Amway to start Quixtar, that's the BEST part about being in Amway now. Whatever network you already have in place on Sep 1 will roll over to Quixtar (you don't have to start from scratch). You say that "nobody knows." Don't confuse the fact that YOU don't know with ignorance on everyone's part, because these points are discussed over and over again by our upline leadership and on the latest "evil" tapes put out by the system and the company."

These small examples show what has been evident for a long time: Amway distributors will say and do whatever they want, fly in the face of the corporation's rules, ethics, you name it. Amway will slap them on the wrist, say "bad distributor," and let them continue in their abuses.

Tell me, Larry, who's the fool here?
