What Can I Do If I've Been Deceived?
If you believe that an MLM distributor has lied to you, tricked you, or deceived you and you have spent money as a result of their dishonesty, there are several steps you can take. Some may be more effective than others. However, the one thing you should not do is let it go. Most people are too embarassed to complain, or they just want to get on with their lives and put the experience behind them. Unfortunately, by doing that, you are allowing that distributor or that organization to victimize others.
- First, do not assume that any "failure" or loss of yours is your own fault or due to your own negligence.
- Contact the company's corporate headquarters. Be prepared to have all pertinent documentation of money spent. Ask for a full refund.
- File a complaint with your local Better Business Bureau, and the BBB that is local to the company's corporate headquarters. Your complaint should name the company, as well as the individuals involved.
- File a complaint with the Attorney General of your state.
- File a complaint with your state's Consumer Fraud or Consumer Protection Division
- File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, if the company does business across state lines. You can contact the FTC online.
- Send copies of all relevant correspondence to your state and federal legislators. They will not know that their constituents are being defrauded unless you let them know!
