It has long been known that Amway and its owners and "leaders" are major contributors to the Republican Party. DeVos has, in the past, been the single largest soft-money contributor to the Party. Betsy DeVos, wife of eldest son Dick, was until recently the Republican Committee Chair in the state of Michigan.

Now it appears that George W. Bush, if elected as the next President of the United States, will have an Amway office in the White House, right next to the office of the National Rifle Assocation.

According to a report in the New York Times on July 30, 2000:

"For the party's top underwriters, there will be an array of gold-plated events in Philadelphia, including cocktails with Gen. Colin L. Powell and an evening cruise on the Delaware River aboard the 'Enterprise,' the yacht owned by Richard M. DeVos, the Amway founder, who is a Bush supporter."

The article continues to describe a Republican Convention which is really two separate events simultaneously; the "public" convention, the one you see on TV, and the behind-the-scenes convention where major corporate and individual donors are being wined and dined in an attempt to increase their already large donations.

Other large donors include tobacco giant Phillip Morris and the National Rifle Association.
