On October 10, 1999, the State of Florida moved against The Winners Circle, an MLM headquartered in Orlando. A temporary restraining order was granted when the State's Attorney convinced a judge that the business was operating as an illegal pyramid sales scheme, and was engaged in unfair and deceptive trade practices. A receiver was appointed to handle the company's finances. On October 25, The Winners Circle filed for bankruptcy protection under Chapter 11 of the US Bankruptcy Code. According to a statement on the company's website, "At this time, the Company has ceased doing business. It is the Company's intent, however, to pay at least a portion of the monies it owes its creditors, including distributors." This means, if you're a distributor and The Winner's Circle owes you commissions or bonuses, you've been had. A bankruptcy settlement is unlikely to pay even ten cents on the dollar. The only question left is, with the company in bankruptcy proceedings, will the State of Florida still proceed in its actions? Read About Florida's Legal Action Against The Winner's Circle |
